Self esteem and confidence |
|||||||
|
According to Nathaniel Branden 'self esteem is the belief that you are competent to live and worthy of living'. Self esteem is an opinion not a fact based on the way you feel about yourself and how that influences the way you see yourself. If you have high self esteem you probably view yourself as adequate, feel adequate and believe in yourself.
If you have a poor self image it can probably be linked to your negative view of one or more of the below and will result in low self esteem. For example, if you feel others have a poor perception of you this will cause you to doubt yourself. Low esteem is a risk factor for issues such as addiction to drugs, alcohol/smoking, self-hatred, anger and weight management, etc. |

Self esteem is a product of your outlook on the following:

Self esteem is largely a matter of emotion whereas self confidence is often eroded by experience. If we lose self-confidence or self-respect our self-esteem will be lower as one of its components is missing. This is why any experiences which knock self confidence will have an effect on self esteem. High self esteem can also lead to self confidence in the same way that sound self esteem is both a cause and effect of Positive Mental Attitude (PMA). PMA is a state of mind; the mind is extremely powerful and like a muscle needs to be exercised. Coaching can help you to ensure your mind is exercised to build and maintain PMA and therefore self esteem. Self esteem and confidence are shaped by relationships and experiences at school, at home and in wider society. Therefore low self esteem and confidence can often be linked back to childhood, when ideas were accepted into the mind as true, even if they were inaccurate. If you were programmed with inaccurate ideas when you were young you will probably find it difficult to prevent associated thoughts and feelings, even if you now know this is irrational. What Harmony4Life clients are saying... "...behind the scenes there was you, you helped make me enjoy my wedding day to the full, you showed me where my confidence was to walk the aisle, and made me believe I could be beautiful and interesting. it’s hard to believe I had been dreading this day only a few months ago! I really can’t thank you enough Claire, your amazing!" "I feel my self esteem has increased from a 1 to 5.5 (on a scale of 1-10) in just this session (coaching)." "My confidence has increased from a 3 to 7.5 (on a scale from 1-10) in just a couple of sessions, which is exactly what I needed to help me move forward. This together with the session on procrastination has given me a new approach to life and I can see things changing already as a result of this." For more client testimonies click here. How self esteem and confidence relates to other issues I specialise in working with people with low self esteem and confidence. Clients may not consider this to be at the root of the issue when they first seek coaching/ hypnotherapy but, if this is related to the issue that they have come to therapy for, it usually becomes apparent. I can help you discover the faulty programming that may be affecting your self esteem and self confidence. Once this is identified it can be replaced with positive programming to increase your self esteem and confidence. Things that you used to perceive as difficult will not phase you and instead you will find your goals are easily achievable. Where appropriate I will tailor cognitive behavioural coaching, hypnotherapy and NLP to focus on self esteem and confidence, as well as working on the original issue which brought the client to me. A related Harmony4Life client testimony... "I've always been the one who struggled with confidence. Yet this weekend, in fact the past few weeks, has been a completely different story - I no longer shy away from starting conversations, I've been approaching new people, and have even found myself seeking centre stage - how odd is that! Funny how things change! Speaking of change, I haven't smoked since last Wed - am so chuffed that I can manage a whole week and am now sure that I can quit for good. Also been to the gym nearly every day and, shock horror, actually played football last week - I wasn't that good but who cares!
One of the things I've realised is just how restricted and unfulfilled my life was when I had no confidence - it’s amazing how changing your attitude/thinking opens so many new doors."
